Sustainability Summit

How will the NCC 2022 changes affect you?

The recent residential building condensation and energy efficiency changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) for 2022 are the largest single sustainability amendments since 2006. While some fear these changes will increase overall construction costs and require alterations to standard building designs, other questions remain relating to maintaining comfort in a changing climate, electrification, reaching net-zero and controlling condensation.

And of course, there is also the question of how all this will affect the sustainability of our designs and builds.

So how will all these changes affect the industry in real terms?

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this presentation, you should be able to:

  • Outline the most recent changes to the National Construction Code (NCC), as introduced in NCC 2022.
  • Identify the NCC changes that relate directly to the sustainability of buildings.
  • Explain the claims that these NCC changes will have unintended negative consequences.
  • Identify and evaluate the views of the various interest groups associated with the issue of construction and sustainability.
