Are We Truly Ready To Pivot To Transport-Oriented Development?

The NSW government introduced a housing manifesto late last year that centred around the creation of residential hubs located within a 400-metre radius of some 28 train stations across Greater Sydney. A significant amount of commentary on the policy has been heard, but the greater concern is the pushback from Councils and ‘NIMBY’s’, that is met with equal force from state government and ‘YIMBY’s’.

Can Sydney truly pivot to medium density near its transport hubs, or will opposition and a desperate plea to maintain the heritage fabric of the harbour city’s suburbs result in getting nothing done once more? It’s time to find out.
