Kawai Yeung

Ka Wai co-founded Kaunitz Yeung Architecture to create socially responsible, culturally sensitive, and humane architecture. At the heart of her work is a deep commitment to co-design and co-building with local communities. Together with her team, she has demonstrated that high-quality, transformative architecture is not a matter of cost, but of commitment.

She has had the privilege of working with more than 40 Indigenous communities across Australia, as well as many others throughout the Pacific. Kawai is dedicated to bridging social gaps and fostering the continuation of heritage and culture, with a particular focus on projects in health and aged care, cultural and art centres, schools, and housing.

In 2021, she was honoured to jointly receive, with co-founder David Kaunitz, the Vassilis Sgoutas Prize from the UIA for their contribution to improving living conditions for the underprivileged. The practice’s work has also been recognised nationally and internationally with numerous awards, including the European Healthcare Design Awards, the World Community Architecture Award, and the ArchitectureAU Award for Social Impact.
