Davina Jackson to talk at Sustainability Live 2019

  •   5 November 2019

The third annual Sustainability Live conference will return to The Star, Sydney on November 7 with a series of renowned panellists dissecting this year’s most important industry issues.

With each talk worth one CPD point (totalling six CPD points for the day), a particular highlight will be speakers such as Davina Jackson.

Jackson is a Sydney-based writer on architecture, design, urban applications of post-internet technology, and Pacific geographic history.

Her latest book is ‘Data Cities: How satellites are transforming architecture and design.’

A former editor of Architecture Australia, professor at UNSW and a founder of the Vivid light festival, she is now an honorary academic with the University of Kent School of Architecture, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a councillor of the Geographical Society of NSW.

“I don’t like to use the term ’sustainability’ because to me it seems like a code word to reassure conservative people that there need be no changes in response to today’s extraordinary climate dramas,” says Jackson.

“There’s got to be huge changes to our ways of life to fix climate change and one of those changes will be our loss of personal privacy and, to some extent, our freedom,” she says.

“For the past two decades, I have been travelling globally to research not specifically the perils and evils of climate change, but the more proactive question of how post-internet technologies are evolving and being applied to solve the climate challenges affecting urban environments.”

Jackson will speak on the Disruptive Sustainable City Technologies Cities panel at 2pm on Nov 7 at the Star, Sydney.

This panel will look at which ‘disruptive’ and ‘sustaining’ technologies can contribute to city-based sustainability transitions?

Sustainability Live 2019 will be held from 8.15am – 4.30pm on November 7 at The Star in Sydney.
