Phillippa Carnemolla

Associate Professor Phillippa Carnemolla leads research at the intersection of social sustainability, inclusive design, and the built environment. She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Built Environment within the Faculty of Design, Architecture, and Building at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Phillippa’s research spans multiple domains, including housing, disability, and aged care, focusing on how the built environment impacts social inclusion and community care. 

Phillippa has developed a robust portfolio of community-led research that links experiences of aging and disability with the design and planning of inclusive environments. She is known internationally for her foundational evidence measuring how home modifications reduce the amount of care received in the home. Her expertise is recognised internationally, and her work has informed significant policy changes in Australia and abroad, including contributions to the National Aged Care Design Principles and the National Construction Code.
