Nigel Bell

Nigel Bell is the principal of ECOdesign Architects + Consultants, working from the Blue Mountains for 40 years, addressing sustainability and bushfire issues across practice, education, and communities. He’s garnered project and personal awards during this time, most recently being a national finalist for ‘Lifetime Achievement in Sustainability’. Within the community, he facilitated bushfire recovery in Marysville in 2009 (Victoria) and the Blue Mountains in 2013 (NSW). For the AIA, he’s written bushfire design notes before representing architects on the three Australian Standards regarding bushfires over the last decade pro bono and the 2020 Royal Commission. He’s recently returned from a study tour in California and the west coast of Canada on ‘Wildfire Architecture’, seeking to share and learn from their experience. Currently, he’s undertaking project webinars for Renew, ‘Beyond-BAL – Australia’s most bushfire-resilient homes’.
