Katarzyna Jurkiewicz

Katarzyna Jurkiewicz is a Principal in Grimshaw’s Sydney studio where she is also Sustainability Manager within the practice’s global sustainability network. She is an experienced design leader with over 17 years of expertise and a vast design and delivery portfolio spanning a range of sectors from industrial design to transport infrastructure. Her design work is informed by a human-centred perspective, addressing the requirements of customers, operators and community.

She was responsible for the delivery of Sydney’s CBD and South East Light Rail which transformed George Street into a public urban realm and delivered vastly improved transport to Sydney’s South Eastern Suburbs. More recently, she has delivered the new Sydney street furniture, comprising transit shelters, public amenities and a new digital network of information panels supporting commercial and civic messaging for QMS Media and the City of Sydney.

What started as an interest in driving standardisation and modularity on projects through an industrial design approach, has now become a focus on the delivery of highly sustainable built environments underpinned by circular economy principles. This is realised in her Sustainability Manager role, with responsibility for the implementation of zero carbon pathways and circular economy principles on all of Grimshaw’s large-scale projects originating in the Sydney studio, including the forthcoming Sydney West Metro.
