Black Mountain House

Light House Architecture & Science

The Black Mountain House respects its street and community, responds to its climate and site, and captures the essence of a modern Australian culture.

The character and street-tree outlook of the original home are maintained, while the rear extension provides living spaces that are modern, textural, warm and bright. The rich red and charcoal stained cladding references colours from Australian gum tree bark.

Design optimisation and energy efficiency retrofitting measures have transformed this home from and EER of 2.3 stars to 7.1 stars, predicting almost 80% reductions in energy use (per square metre).
