Randwick’s Permaculture Interpretive Garden
Randwick City Council
The Permaculture Interpretive Garden is a new type of multipurpose urban landscape incorporating passive and active recreational opportunities, education and the conservation of agricultural and natural biodiversity.
The Garden forms part of the wider design, building and learning structure prototyping the application of permaculture design principles in a local government context. Permaculture is a design system for creating resilient and convivial communities invented by Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. The design system spread from the shores of Tasmania to the world.
As a new way for communities to interact with public open space, the vision for the Garden was guided by an initial placemaking initiative that identified desired features and roles.
