Mineral Fox Circular Coffee Wall Finish
Mineral Fox
Mineral Fox is pioneering a new generation of sustainable building materials by transforming overlooked natural waste streams into high-performance architectural finishes through material science, industrial innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
Our entry showcases a world-first mineral wall finish developed using recycled coffee chaff—the outer skin removed during the coffee roasting process—for the new Allpress Espresso café in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Working with leading interior architecture practice Foolscap, we transformed the client’s own coffee roasting by-product into a premium architectural finish, creating a genuine circular outcome where the client’s waste became part of the building itself.
The innovation extends well beyond the material formulation. Mineral Fox developed the processing, stabilisation and manufacturing methods required to convert an agricultural waste stream into a durable, commercially viable finish suitable for high-performance hospitality environments.
More importantly, this project demonstrates a new model for sustainable material innovation. Rather than viewing waste as an end-of-life problem, we create commercially scalable material systems that generate value across industries. By connecting waste-producing industries with architecture and manufacturing, we help reduce landfill, lower embodied carbon and prove that beautiful, high-performance materials can emerge from resources previously considered to have no value.
